Dwarf Lilyturf Tuber
One of TCM's most valued Yin tonics — Dwarf Lilyturf Tuber moistens the Lung, nourishes Stomach Yin, clears Heart heat, and generates body fluids with its sweet, gentle, and deeply restorative nature.
What Is Dwarf Lilyturf Tuber?
Dwarf Lilyturf Tuber (Mai Dong, 麦冬) is the small, spindle-shaped tuber of Ophiopogon japonicus — a grass-like plant found throughout East Asia. One of the most important and widely used Yin-nourishing herbs in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Mai Dong is prized for its ability to simultaneously moisten three critical organ systems: the Lung, Stomach, and Heart.
Sweet, slightly bitter, and slightly cold in nature, Dwarf Lilyturf Tuber enters the Lung, Stomach, and Heart channels. Its moistening, fluid-generating nature makes it a premier herb for all conditions of Yin deficiency and internal dryness. In the Lung, it moistens dryness and stops cough. In the Stomach, it generates fluids and clears deficiency heat. In the Heart, it nourishes Heart Yin and clears mild Heart heat to calm restlessness, anxiety, and sleeplessness.
History & Origin
Dwarf Lilyturf Tuber has been a cornerstone of Chinese medicine for over 2,000 years, with an unbroken record of clinical use spanning from the Shennong Bencao Jing to modern TCM practice.

Clears Deficiency Heat
Its slightly cold nature clears the low-grade heat of Yin deficiency — used for afternoon fever, flushing, night sweats, and the five-palm heat of Yin deficiency.
